Update from Hewn & Forged

Do you ever get outside of your comfort zone? I try to, on occasion and last week I found myself on the "set" - cameras in my face, speaking lines for a how-to installation video for an upcoming product line for another local company. I got to work with some great people, from the owners of the company to the crew behind the cameras. I have never done anything like this before and I was challenged beyond what I deem comfortable. I've done a few photo shoots before, but speaking lines is another beast; another skill that needs honing...big time!

When you have a woodworking business with a shop full of tools, the creation possibilities are endless. We get requests/comments all of the time - "can you make this?" or my favorite statement "you guys should totally make this" (referring to some sort of tchotchke - don't get me wrong, tchotchkes have their place, and I have a few...). But, when we stay in our lane of big timber creations, we end up making something like this table. Incredibly sturdy and built to last a few lifetimes, heck, you could even display your tchotchkes on a piece like this!

For the last 3 Septembers we have headed west of the Twin Cities with a few of our buddies to play some golf. It's a quick trip - we play on Saturday and then again early Sunday morning; we are all back at a reasonable time to be with our families by early afternoon. Taking time to hang out with the guys playing golf, sharing a meal, and playing some cards is something I look forward to each Fall. I hope you are all able to get outside and enjoy the change of the season, not matter the activity! Pretty soon, at least here in MN, there will be snow.

The 1st day of school for our kids started this week on Tuesday! My wife, Brenna, and I really enjoy our summers with our kids...sending them off to school is always a bittersweet time. Tessa is starting her 8th grade year and Ethan is starting his 5th grade year. Can't believe fall is already starting to creep in - the weather during this time of year is the best type of working weather with cool mornings in the shop. We are ready for a busy end of year making fireplace mantels, etc.

Wall table, console table, behind the coach table, big a$$ beam table...when we created this table a few years ago, we ran through a bunch of different names to figure out how to identify this piece. No matter the name, just know that it is HEAVY DUTY = SOLID. In an age where most things are made overseas with veneers and compressed plywood, we take pride in the handcrafted work of real solid timbers that we produce, made and sourced here in MN, USA. We are entering a season where these tables will be selling like hotcakes - get yours today!

That's me, bottom left; Chasing Hobbs. I joined a 35+ baseball league this year - it's the first time back playing ball for me since college/town team ball; 20 years ago. Our season ended this last weekend, which is a bummer, but now I have time to heal up from some nagging injuries (hammy) and catch up on housework and side projects in the shop that have fallen by the wayside. Getting back into ball was some good self care this season, plus I met some really cool guys. Already looking forward to next season!

We are mostly a production shop making products for our clients one a time; however, sometimes we do the installs. Here is a beam wrap that we did for a house in Shorewood, MN. Our clients wanted to cover up structural beams/sheetrock to make their space finished...it turned out great!
